What do we offer?

Kindergarten programs are delivered by qualified early childhood teachers. They're designed to improve children’s development in how to play with other children, self-awareness and respect for others and emotional skills (understanding their feelings).

Kinder also teaches language, literacy and numeracy skills through reading stories and counting objects. Children can make new friends and families can connect to each other as well as community services.

4 year old Kinder programs
Children usually go to kinder at the age of 4 – a year before they start primary school.

3 year old Kinder programs
Funded 3 year old kinder programs are being rolled out in Victoria. Buloke and Yarriambiack are among the first council areas that will provide five hours of funded kinder for eligible children. Ouyen Child Care Centre will also be providing a 3yo kinder program.

Preparing for kinder

There are lots of things you can do to prepare your child for kindergarten. And there are even some things you can do to prepare yourself (for the parents who think they might have some trouble separating from their youngsters).

Kindergarten teachers tell us that it helps your child to be independent by following a few simple tips:

  • Dress your child in good shoes that are easy to take off and put back on.
  • Label all of your child’s belongings.
  • Teach your child to be sunsmart by wearing a hat outside and being able to put on sunscreen.
  • Provide nutritious food in a lunch box that is easy for the child to open and has minimal fussy packaging.

Most Kindergarten fees are charged per term however some families will be eligible for fee subsidies. Please contact the Early Years Team for more information.
